Opinion research

The activity of the Opinion Research Department has been an important part of the research institute’s work since its foundation. Our researches basically study the life of the society; the subjects of our examinations are citizens and constituents, shortly the consumers of opinions, conceptions and thoughts.

The members of the Opinion Research Department study almost all areas of the economic, social, cultural and political life. With the help of research they seek the general, the common factors as well as the special, the unique. They try to come to know the whole and the parts. It means that they reveal not only the opinion of the population in general, but they want to explore the distinctiveness of individual social classes or groups. Researches are in many cases single; they record the opinion of different social groups at a given time, in a definite situation just like a ‘snapshot’. However, in many cases they attempt to survey and monitor changes, they follow the chronological modifications in the knowledge and opinion of the population as a ‘film’.

Opinion researches take on more than the recording of opinions and thoughts. The researches concentrate on the citizens’ behaviour in certain situations, their relationships, their circumstances and their attitudes.

The users of opinion researches are the decision-makers. The researches provide information for measures that are decisive from the point of view of the life of the country or that of the local society. Results can be used to prepare the decisions, when the actual tasks are determined with the knowledge of the ratio and composition of persons for and against a possible alternative. With appropriate researches it is able to study the political and social consequences and the impacts on the groups affected by the decisions.

We regularly work for local governments. Our researches assist the leaders of settlements in getting accurate information about the problems, needs and opinions of the residents as well as about the unifying force of local communities.

We regularly participate in big domestic and foreign scientific projects concerning social research which examine various areas of social changes.

A permanent topic of opinion research is the change in political parties and public figures’ popularity. According to our basic principle public opinion has the right to know about public opinion. In line with this principle we publish the latest results and analysis from week to week in the press.
